ALCON,

We had a meeting with the owners of Apache Pass last night at Kaz's house and solidified some things that we'll be doing there this year, so I figured y'all might want to know what that's all about.

First, out of appreciation for what we have done for veteran families, they have waived our camping fee of $10.00. We still have the entry fee of $35.00 per person, which includes a $15.00 t-shirt. They have also agreed that any time we choose to do something for veteran or KIA families, we can use Apache Pass free of charge. They normally charge $100 an hour or $1,500 per weekend to use their facilities; we use it free.

Also, they have asked us to participate in the opening ceremonies and Gold Star Family recognition ceremony they will have on Saturday, 29 September 2007. We will meet the attending Gold Star Families at the Rockdale WalMart parking lot and accompany them the 9 miles to Apache Pass with our flags flying. The Gold Star Families will then be treated to a BBQ lunch and a tour of the facility. At 1830 hours, when the first band is about to start playing, there will be a moment of silence in recognition of the KIA from the War on Terrorism followed by the National Anthem sung by Wild Horses. Then a public recognition of the Gold Star Families in attendance.

We have also been given a reserved camping area under the pecan trees near the entrance of the facility and a vender's booth free of charge. That's another $300 benefit to PGR.

I know times are tough financially for some of y'all. Me too. But this event is being designed around the PGR and all the planning has been in an effort to thank us for what we do every day. Please consider taking that Friday and Saturday to Ride to the River for the weekend and spend some quality time with us and the Gold Star Families.

If you plan on attending, please let me know, so I can plan for how large our reserved area needs to be.

Thanks for all each of you do,

Steve

Steve, This is a great opportunity for the PGR to be recognized for all we do. I have already mailed my pre-registration in along with the $10 for a tent. Let me know whet time you plan to leave that Friday and I'll be there.

I wanna go too. But I'll either go back home or find a motel room for the night, camping was fun when I was 20 years younger, now I like my a/c or heat and a real bed. Yeah, I'm a sissy... LOL

Steve, Kaz and your Central Texas team, thank you so much for the hospitality. We had a great meeting and I am so looking forward to seeing all of you at Apache Pass for RTTR 2. I'll spread your plan for the Gold Star tribute to my SE Texas PGR. I'm sure Kit and Cliff would agree with me that you folks are the salt of the earth and have your hearts in the right place. Looking forward, my friends.

Steve, Mindy and I are planning on being there Friday and Saturday (Lord willing and the creek won't rise - oh yeah, that's a river!). We'll probably opt for a soft bed in Rockdale for the night though. If this changes, I'll let you know. I really enjoyed last year and I think this year will be even better. You all did some tremendous coordinating on this thing and I'm sure the Gold Star families will appreciate all of your collective efforts. See ya there (if not sooner).

For those who didn't make it last year to "Ride To The River" , check out this link.

http://www.apachepass.com/rttrcomments.htm

The ones, that made it last year, we know we had a great time with great people.

Here are some pictures http://www.apachepass.com/picso6.htm

And for the ones that don't want to sleep in a tent, here is another site

Looks like I'll be stuck here on friday... but I want to go at least on saturday.

Is there anyone from the Cove/Killeen/Lampasas area who will be going to Apatche Pass on saturday morning ? And would let me tag along? I would prefer not going by myself.

Thanks. smiley

Unfortunately, I will still be out of state and won't be able to make it. *sigh* I hate my job. Anyone out there know of any software/systems engineering jobs that don't require any traveling? Angie and I went last year and had a great time, especially being as close to home as it is. If it's better than last year, then anyone going will have a blast and a good way to cap off a good summer.

The way things look right now I may get to go to this on Saturday. Friday is out of the question unless something changes. Either way I won't be camping.

In case I don't make it at all, I hope you all have a fantastic time. Be sure and take pictures!

Update as of 9/11/07:
It's questionable now if I'll be able to go to this at all. Have a safe ride and I hope you have fun.

Ok, working on this one, one way or another we will be there! But, not sure if we will be camping, or just coming on Saturday! Mike got rear-ending on Hood yesterday and the hitch is messed up that we are not sure if we can get it fixed before than. So maybe Hoteling it. He is ok, but pretty sore and stiff! So see you there!

Sorry to say we will not be going. With the new surgery for John and all. I am not letting him 10 feet from the house this time.

Hope you all have fun.

Dee,
John had a NEW surgery?? I didn't know that, and I hope all went well! And I agree, sit on him, tie him down, lock him up, do anything to make him stay put so it can heal properly.

John,
and you, please, listen to Dee.... will ya?
