COL Samuel William Floca, Jr, 78, US Army, Retired, Vietnam Veteran, Silver Star, Bronze Star (2x), Legion of Merit and Purple Heart (5x) Recipient, of Temple, TX


The family of Colonel Samuel William Floca, Jr has requested the presence and participation of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Funeral and Committal Services of their Loved One.

Sam enlisted in the United States Army in 1963 and was commissioned as a Private. He served with the 1st Infantry Division - The Big Red One. He served two tours in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action, two Bronze Stars, the Legion of Merit, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and five Purple Hearts for his wounds during combat. He held many positions during his military career, including Public Affairs Officer for the Pentagon, Chief Public Affairs Officer for the US Army Europe, Commander of the 3rd Battalion, 37th Field Artillery at Herzo Base in Germany, Instructor of Military History at Ft Sill, Oklahoma, and Director of Military Strategy at the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He proudly served his country until he retired as a Colonel in 1992. His passion for military service was reinvigorated when he was asked to be the Honorary Regimental Colonel for the 82nd Field Artillery at Ft Hood, Texas. Notes:

1. Be at staging ON TIME and TOPPED OFF.

2. Hydrate well prior, bring water for yourself and a buddy and dress with consideration of the weather conditions.
