HONOR MISSION
PO2 JC Alston, 98, US Navy, WWII Veteran, Pearl Harbor Survivor, of Troy, TX
The family of Petty Officer Second Class JC Alston has requested the presence and participation of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Funeral and Committal Services of their Loved One.
JC had joined the Navy at age eighteen in August of 1941. He was on watch aboard the USS California the morning of December 7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. After many battles, throughout the war in the Pacific, by September 2, 1945, Alston was on the West Virginia's deck in Tokyo Bay when Japanese officials joined Admiral Chester Nimitz, General Douglas MacArthur, other allied commanders on the nearby USS Missouri to sign the instrument of surrender, officially ending the war weeks after the United States dropped atom bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. JC was Honorably Discharged in October of 1945.
JC had returned to Pearl Harbor many times on December 7th, but more often on that fateful anniversary he would attend the commemoration at the Admiral Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas. He served as the president of the Pearl Harbor Survivors' Association Chapter 10, which disbanded in 2011 because there were so few survivors left. He was a member of the local American Legion Post 133 for thirty two years. JC worked at the VA for thirty four years in various positions, including as fire department crew chief, police officer and supervisor of laundry service.
