CAPT Robert Hartzell Sr, 94, US Navy, Retired, Korean/Vietnam Veteran, Bronze Star Recipient, OF Georgetown, TX
The family of Captain Robert Hartzell has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Committal Service of their Loved One.
Bob joined the US Navy in April 1946, while still a high school senior as part of the limited Mid-Shipman Aviation Program. He attended two years of his four year undergraduate degree from Ursinus College, a private liberal arts college in Collegeville, Pennsylvania before beginning his military service. Bob attended pre-flight school in Pensacola, placing top of his class with further flight training at Whiting Field in Milton, Florida. He earned his wings as a Naval Aviator in February 1950. He volunteered for deployment and flew sixty four combat missions in the Korean War. Bob flew from eight di?erent aircraft carriers making a total of one hundred forty seven carrier landings. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars; his military decorations include a Bronze Star, Air Medal with two gold stars, Naval Commendation Medal with Combat “V”, two National Defense Service Medals, three Korean Service Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, two Vietnam Service Medals, a United Nations Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After thirty two years of military service, Bob retired in 1978 as Captain, at his final duty station, NAS Corpus Christi. Setup & Briefing: Upon clearance and at the direction of the Ride Captain, we will move to the shelter, set up the flags, be briefed and await arrival of the procession.
