The Temple Chamber of Commerce has requested the participation of Patriot Guard Rider Members during the escort of Veterans from the William R Courtney Texas State Veterans Home to the Frank W Mayborn Civic & Convention Center for the 34th Annual Military Appreciation Luncheon.
The Military Appreciation Luncheon includes the presentation of the Nation’s Colors by the 1st Cavalry Division Honor Guard, music from 1st Cavalry Band, patriotic message, and a special presentation. This year's guest speaker will be Lieutenant General Paul E Funk II, Commanding General of III Armored Corps and Fort Hood. Past presenters have included MG Clark LeMasters, Commanding Officer, 13th ESC/Fort Hood; Keifer Marshall, Jr., USMC (Ret), a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima; COL (Ret) Bill Pailes, director of the Temple High School JROTC program, retired from the USAF and former shuttle astronaut; and, LTG (Ret) Paul “Butch†Funk, former Commanding Officer, III Corps/Fort Hood. Notes:
1. NO WEAPONS, and pictures have to be approved by the VA to ensure no photos of patients were taken.
2. Be at staging ON TIME and TOPPED OFF.
3. Hydrate well prior, bring water for yourself and a buddy and dress with consideration of the weather conditions.
4. The Event Coordinator would like to give complimentary tickets to the Riders who participate in the procession. Please let us know by October 25th if you would like a ticket so we can let her know how many tickets are needed.
